The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Nasser Al-Shraideh, inaugurated the project to expand grain silos in the Juwaida complex in the central region, funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, within the grant of the United Arab Emirates government allocated to Jordan within the framework of the Gulf grant.
During the opening ceremony today, Tuesday, in the presence of the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Mohammed Saif Al-Suwaidi, the Minister of Planning said that the project comes within the framework of His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to build our national capabilities by strengthening the food security system and maintaining the strategic stock of strategic basic commodities, especially the material Wheat, as the expansion project is one of the most important strategic projects in the Kingdom to complete and build the silos system to enhance the storage capacity owned by the National Silos Company. Al-Shraideh stressed the importance and level of bilateral relations between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, and the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates in strengthening brotherly relations and cooperation between the two countries.
He added that this cooperation came within the continuous development support provided by the sisterly United Arab Emirates through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development within the framework of the Gulf grant and the pledges of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit, where priority strategic projects for the Jordanian government were implemented in a large number of sectors. He pointed out that the implementation of these projects comes at a time when the world, including the region, is witnessing great challenges represented by the impact of the supply and supply chains of basic commodities, and their high prices, as a result of the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus and the Ukrainian-Russian crisis, as the implementation of these projects contributed to empowering the government Jordan has to maintain adequate reserves of these basic crops during this period. The Minister of Planning expressed the Jordanian government's thanks and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates, president, government and people, for their continuous support for Jordan's development efforts.
The project includes the construction of 24 silos with a total capacity of 120,000 tons of grain, funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development through a grant of $33 million, and 28 silos were established in Aqaba Governorate with a total capacity of 100,000 tons of grain. It was funded by a generous grant of $37.5 million. For his part, the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development stressed that the United Arab Emirates and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have distinguished historical relations, stressing the keenness of the wise leadership of the Emirates to provide forms of support to Jordan to contribute to achieving the comprehensive development process, and support the directions of the brothers in Jordan to implement development plans aimed at stimulating Economic activity and achieving sustainable development through financing several priority projects for the Jordanian government. Al-Suwaidi pointed out that the strategic projects financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will contribute to achieving food security by maintaining the strategic stock of basic food commodities for Jordan, as part of the distinguished relations that unite the two countries.

Imad Al-Tarawneh, stressed that in light of the global, regional and international conditions that we are going through, which have occupied the world in terms of curbing inflation and controlling supply chains and safe stocks of food commodities, the project to increase storage capacities in silos has contributed By reducing the damages of this crisis since its inception by increasing storage capacities in Jordan by 220 thousand tons of grain, which helped raise the strategic stock by prolonging the storage period in light of consumer rates and by an additional 3 months of grain, which enabled Jordan to provide a safe strategic stock of wheat in Under the current conditions for a year or more.
